Our
Floating Stone Ranch

The Land

Floating Stone Ranch, about an hour North of the feedlot, is amongst slender aspens, dark black soil and the greenest of grass. The hills and valley are peppered with thick pine on one side and the boreal forest on the other. Like any good Western movie, the setting lets you know that only true cowboys can live and work here.

This is the land behind Highland Feeders. While we are known for serving customers through our feedlot, we also raise and look after our own cattle with a herd ranging from 4,000 to 10,000 head of mother cows.

Floating Stone Ranch
Signature Beef

Floating Stone Ranch is home to our own beef program, Floating Stone Ranch Signature Beef, where we raise and feed cattle with a clear focus on the eating experience our customers expect. Breed selection, feeding pace, and finish are all shaped by that end goal, using the same care and discipline we apply across the feedlot and grain farming operations.

Signature Wagyu Beef

We also feed Wagyu cattle, a process that demands exceptional precision. Wagyu require carefully managed nutrition, consistent handling, and close observation over a longer feeding period. Achieving the right balance of growth, marbling, and finish leaves little room for shortcuts. Feeding Wagyu well is a measure of patience and experience, and it reflects the depth of skill built through years of working cattle day in and day out.

The people who work this land are shaped by it.

Many of us have lived alongside cattle for generations, learning to read their behaviour and respond without words. There is a quiet understanding that develops over time, built on respect, repetition, and responsibility. At Floating Stone Ranch and Highland Feeders, raising cattle is both work and craft, a relationship between people, animals, and land that continues to evolve, grounded in tradition.

The Cowboy Way

This isn't the easiest life to pick. A driving northerly Winter wind at minus 30 degrees Celsius while you tend to the needs of a calf, will remind you of that. Then again, when you stand still and look around at where the biggest sky meets a never-ending horizon, you find yourself wishing for no other place.

Caring for animals, in the grasses and the elements, the cowboy life, is not to be traded for anything.
